North West freelancers are feeling nervous

The results of our January survey of North West freelancers are in – and show that freelance and contract workers are feeling nervous about the forthcoming year.

Just over half of freelancers surveyed in our poll (51%) felt uncertain about the outlook for freelance work. 41% of respondents felt things were getting better with 7% believing that finding freelance work was getting harder.

Commenting on the results, Neil Lewis of the Brookson Enterprise Freelance Fair said: “The rise in uncertainty is the biggest change on our previous November survey, when confidence was building with 76% of freelancers stating that things were getting better.”

Lewis continued: “Following the snow shut down in December and the slow start to 2011, there is little wonder that freelancers are feeling uncertain.”

Asked what freelancers should do to ease fears of a tough 2011, Lewis said: “Our freelancers are telling us that they are picking up the phone to fellow ‘lancers, cleaning up the office and getting back in contact with clients. In addition, smart freelancers are going out to meet new clients and find growth businesses at our freelance fairs which will bring together businesses looking to meet and hire talented freelancers.”

The next Brookson Enterprise Freelance Fair is on 16th February at Innospace in Manchester. Tickets are selling fast and places are limited –  available on the #EFFManchester microsite.

Our event in Liverpool on 16th March has also just gone on sale.
